Stephanie's first book, a work of literary journalism centered on agriculture, is forthcoming with University of Nebraska Press. Stephanie argues for a transition from conventional, industrial agriculture to regenerative agriculture, a philosophy that renews resources such as soil and water and is highly tailored to local environments - a one-size-fits-none approach.
In this book, Stephanie reveals that "sustainable agriculture," the environmentalist's battle cry of the last decade, is no longer enough in the fight against climate change, since that philosophy has been co-opted by corporate agriculture. Relying on interviews with farmers and ranchers practicing forms of regenerative, one-size-fits-none agriculture, extensive research, and her personal knowledge having grown up on a ranch in South Dakota, Stephanie envisions a new future for American agriculture.
